LA – Hollywood

by regandholly

We headed up to LA from OC on Sunday morning to pick up a rental car to get us around for 3 days. I was sad to leave Newport, as we had such a great day there and I would have so enjoyed another. But I digress. We got our car and were off to see some buildings on our way to our hotel. Stopping off of course at Wholefoods for lunch and a restock of our snacks. That night we went out for dinner at 25degrees restaurant as we had read they do great burgers. And I can confirm they do. I had beef with green chilli and cheese, and we also tried their boozed shakes – my selection being a Salted Caramel Butterscotch shake (Sir went with the Kahlua!). All deliciously bad for us, and we felt that way not long after. Haha.

On Monday morning we set out to explore Downtown, which included the iconic Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. A beautiful, surprisingly interactive building. My favourite of his that we have seen so far.

After exploring some other buildings along the way, we headed into Little Tokyo for some lunch. Successfully finding some delicious Japanese cuisine! Oh how I have been craving Sushi and Shushimi since New York! That was moderately satisfied.

Oh and of we went to see the Hollywood sign from the Observatory!

That night we went over to The Grove shopping center and Farmers Markets to explore and eat dinner. This is where I made some last minute cosmetic purchases – finally! For dinner we opted for some Italian, I got a Chicken Pesto Alfredo and Sir got a Meatball Panini. Both tasted fresh and delish!

On Tuesday morning we took our time before checking out to thoroughly pack our luggage and have some downtime since we would be out and about until 7pm when we got to the airport. Firstly, once checked out, we went up to the Getty Museum. We only stayed for an hour since we didn’t want to pay for parking, and I’m so over galleries/museums! That had some beautiful open spaces to enjoy the sunshine, but so did the next place we went!

Our afternoon was spent at Santa Monica. We had attempted to do an afternoon here on the day we arrived, but due to numerous reasons (the main one – me being HANGRY remember?) we didn’t. In fact, our entire opinion of LA is different since that first post. We have thoroughly enjoyed our few days here. So Santa Monica was our afternoon hang, eating some good food, drinking some good coffee and enjoying some good sunshine!

After that we headed to the airport for our LA-Auckland overnight flight! Funny story – we were delayed about an hour due to the AirNZ crew being stuck in traffic/blown tire! I thought that was humorous. Our flight was good – I slept for about 6-8 hours and we arrived in Auckland around 9am on Thursday. Will give you a recap of our time here shortly.
