Paradise in Mexico
Isla Mujeres, Cancun is paradise.
Getting there was interesting to begin with. We had organized a tour with a shuttle company, and although we stated our destination was Puerto Juarez, for some reason (human error?) they had down that we needed to go to Playa Del Carmen – the opposite direction. Right then I wish I had taken some Spanish lessons! Anyway, eventually (about an hour drive) we got to the ferry, purchased our ticket (which was a fuss in itself since the cost I found must have been for ‘locals’ because we were charged double! The ferry took about 20mins to get to the island, and then we had a 500m walk (with luggage-I was wishing for my pack by this stage) along the cobbled bustling streets. It was hot, but that in itself was delicious after weeks in the cold!
Upon check-in to our resort, Privilege Aluxes, we were handed a glass of champagne, given our “all inclusive” bands and shown to our room by the doorman. The people were wonderful and the service was nothing short of excellent.
And for the next 3 full days we were waited on as we laid in the sunshine, read, ate delicious Mexican food (copious amounts of guacamole!) and drank cocktails. . It was bliss!
Being all inclusive was fantastic because we didn’t need to think about the cost of things or carry money on us, and we so just wanted to chill out! The only times we left the resort was in the mornings for our run and once for a wander.
As we watched the sunrise on our last day I had a sad feeling as I realized we would probably never return here, but so thankful we got to experience just a few short days in paradise.
Here is a quick photo recap..
